James began a career in finance straight after A Levels, working for Barclays Bank in the South East of England before moving to the North East in 1995. In 1996 he qualified as a Financial Adviser, working with both Barclays and Commercial Union before becoming a Partner with St. James's Place in March 2001.
In October 2005 James and Peter Grieves joined together and formed The Morpeth Practice, which grew organically to one of the largest SJP businesses in the country, managing in excess of £400 million. In October 2020 they welcomed three new Directors to the Board of the newly rebranded business TMP Wealth Management.
James is a Chartered Financial Planner and further qualified to become a Fellow of the Personal Finance Society, as well as holding specialist advice qualifications in retirement planning and investment. As one of the Managing Directors of TMP Wealth Management his time is also spent running a busy and dynamic environment.
Outside of work James’ passion is Rugby. A long term Newcastle Falcons and England supporter, he is also President of his former club Morpeth RFC and is Chair of Youth Rugby with responsibility for 360 players from the ages of 6 to 16. He also enjoys walking his fox-red Labrador, Ted.
